Happy Galentine's day, friends! Unfortunately I am not celebrating the holiday until this weekend but don't worry, even Leslie Knope said "anytime a body of women get together for brunch, we embody the spirit of the holiday," so really, every day could be Galentine's day (which sounds like heaven to me!)
In preparation for this holiday I re-watched the three episodes that include Galentine's celebrations. There are a few things that occur in all three episodes and I think they're hallmarks of the perfect Galentine's celebration.
First, there is always brunch. ALWAYS. Leslie had all her parties at a restaurant (I will be celebrating at The Sweet Divine in St. Louis) but I think it would be perfectly acceptable to whip up a frittata at home with your gals... as long as there's whipped cream. Leslie defines her Galentine's day as "women's only marathon bonding with a ton of whipped cream (heads up don't google that phrase)." The other nice-to-have brunch touches at your Galentine's celebration are cocktails, namely mimosas, and a kitschy cake.
The next reoccurring theme for Galentine's day is an incredibly thoughtful, often weird, handmade gift for each person. If you need some gifting inspiration Leslie went with hand crochet flower pen bouquets, portraits made from the cans of her gal's favorite diet sodas, a 5,000 word essay about how awesome each gal is, a pillow with a needlepoint portrait of their face and a framed newspaper with the lead headline from the day her gals were born. If you don't have time for that kind of Leslie Knope over-the-top gifting, she also gave a gift certificate for a facial in season four.
Last but certainly not least, Galentine's day is all about sharing personal stories and tales about "lost loves," aka spending time with your girls and getting to listen to the state of their hearts.
However you spend Galentine's day, be sure you let your gals know how much you love them. Our best gals hold us together, continually cheer for us to succeed, are proud when we accomplish our dreams and celebrate our victories like its their victory. I don't know where I'd be without my gals and I'm happy that I don't have to find out!
(p.s. I hope you know how much you mean to me for reading my posts and supporting me. Welcome to the girl-gang and happy Galentine's day to you!!) Also if you haven't entered to win $100 to Jord Wooden Watches, click here!
